Almost the New Year

Almost the New year

It's almost the New Year and I'm sick of the way the site looks.  I'm working on another design so hopefully this weekend, I'll have a new look for the site.  As for now, I am signing off until next year aka Monday.  I'll have the Christmas weekend update then, if I haven't already forgotten what happened....

This Past Weekend

Friday

Friday was really busy.  One of the teammates had requested to come in early and leave at 4pm.  She's usually the one that works the 2nd shift and takes care of a lot of the data entry work.  Since she left early, I was stuck doing her work for the entire night.  I had a lot of stuff to go through and couldn't get to a report that I was supposed to work on that day.  After work, I headed over to Joe's Crab Shack to meet up with Vic, Kristine and B Lee.  Marc M.artin was there too.  I haven't seen him in a bit and it was cool catching up with him.  After dinner, we headed out.

Saturday

It was supposed to be pretty warm out that day and I had planned all week to finish putting up the outdoor Christmas lights up but there was still too much snow on the bushes, so since I opted to take a couple of vacation days this week, I figured I'd finish up on Thursday or Friday.  The snow's almost melted now.  Anyways, I had to stop by the bank to make a withdrawal and then decided to gas up and wash the car.  The gas station where I filled up at had at least 5 cars in line for a wash so i drove around to try to find a less busy wash.  The manual car wash was packed so I headed back towards the gas station I came from and the station across the street only had 2 cars in line.  The shell car wash was pretty quick.  You just put your car in neutral and it pulls your car through.  I went back home and dried off the car and polished up the interior with Armor All wipes and Leather conditioner.  The car's looking nice.

Saturday night was my company Christmas party, so i started getting ready at around 6:30p.  The cocktail hour started at 7:30pm, pretty late, but the it was close to my house, at the William Tell Inn in Countryside.  The party was ok.  It was buffet style, so they had the food set up in the back of the room and everyone got their own food.  The DJ was the same dj or at least from the same group we had last year.  The music was ok but the he must have come really cheap cuz his whole setup was like a high school set up.  2 siren lights and a couple of turntables.  DJ's, especially "wedding" style DJ's should know how to read crowds, scratch that (pun intended), ALL DJ's should know how to read crowds.  If there's nobody on the dance floor then you're doing something wrong.  And for most of the night the dance floor was empty.  The bar was a cash bar, 4 dollar beers and 5.50 mixed drinks and wine.  The place looked and smelled old and so did the bartenders.  The whole night had a dark cloud over it for some reason.  A lot of the people who RSVP'ed that they were going did not show up.  I heard about 2 grand worth of people did not show up....It was still an ok time despite everything.  Every employee there received a gift card for Lettuce Entertain U restaurants and continuing the tradition for the 2nd year in a row, i won something in the raffle.  I was actually the very first person to win something.  Got a $50 dollar gift cert for Target!!! Woohoo!! As the night came to a close, some people still wanted to go out so a bunch of people headed over to Rafferty's which was down the street some.  I wasn't sure where the place was but someone had said go east on Joliet Road so I did.  I was by myself, and I actually ended up in Brookfield off of 1st Ave.  So i took the highway (I-55) back to LaGrange and headed the same I went before to see if I missed it.  I didn't.  So headed the opposite direction and lo and behold.  It was the bar I thought it was going to be the whole time.  I had even been there once before with co-workers when i worked at Chase.  I should have went with my first instinct!!! After going the wrong way for about 1/2 an hour, I finally got there and chilled for a bit.  I wasn't really feeling the place.  Maybe with a different crowd and another night but i was ready to go home.  I headed home at about 1am but not before stopping off at Mickey D's to get some grub.

Sunday

When I got home, I started working on my annual family slideshow a bit more.  I'm not sure what time I fell asleep, but I must have been really tired.  I woke up at 1pm.  Checked my cell phone to see if anybody called, didn't see any calls, so I fell back asleep.  I woke up in darkness.  I looked at the clock and it 5pm!! I didn't think I was that tired but I guess I was.  I got up, took a shower and felt the need to go out and do something so I went to Kmart to do some shopping.  I picked up a couple of gifts and some additional games for the annual Christmas Treasure Hunt and also felt I needed to get a new DVD so i bought the first season of Grey's Anatomy.  Everyone is always talking about that show so I decided to see if it was a show I would get into.  I haven't watched any of it yet.  Maybe I'll get to watch some of it, on my 2 days off.

Today

I wasn't looking forward to going into work today.  I've got the report from Friday to do, plus we have the rotation of duties that we go through and we added a new duty which is answering voicemails from our general mailbox, so I didn't think I would have time to do much of anything besides that.  It actually wasn't that bad today.  I was done with the current work at 7 and then had the rest of the night to work on the report.  I was able to leave at 9:30pm.  I knew the Bears game was on so I tuned into the 780AM to listen in.  I wasn't sure how the game was going to turn out after the first half since the touchdowns were going back and forth through the first half, but we had that 1 point lead, so as long as we answered any of the Rams touchdowns, we would always be 1 point ahead.  From the time I shut down my computer and the time I passed by the security desk in the lobby, they had scored another touchdown.  I chatted with, Bart, the security guard about the game a bit and then went to my car.  I headed over to Jewel to get some groceries and after I was done shopping, somehow the scores skyrocketed... The Bears had 47 and the Rams had 21.  Devin Hester continues to break league records.  The Bears are now 11-2 and could be on the way to a Superbowl Championship.  Who's throwing the Superbowl party this year????

Catching Up!

Catching Up!

Yeah, i know I'm 2 weekends behind in my updates... During the Thanksgiving weekend, my cousin found out that one of our neighbors has an unprotected wireless network, that includes a high speed connection.  I spent a good 3 nights trying to download Microsoft Service Packs just so I could the most recent version of Microsoft Movie Maker.  It took less than an hour to download on highspeed but it took about 2 hours to install.  It was a bitch and then after I installed it, i started having problems with my computer.  The blue screen of death would come up and then shut off my computer.  Before, I installed XP Service Pack 2, I had absolutely no problems with my computer.  Microsoft sucks.

Last Saturday

Last Saturday was my co-worker, Sandra's, Christmas party at her house.  I went to Dominick's to get ingredients for the Salmon that I was going to make.  After Dominick's, I headed over to Target to get Ryan's Birthday gift and Nathan's baptism gift.  I was walking down the toy aisle when someone yelled my name.  I looked over and it was Vic in a wheel chair.  He tore his Achille's tendon a while ago playing flag football and has been in a cast for a long time now.  He and Kristine were there looking for Ryan's gift as well.  I showed Vic the oversized Optimus Prime that comes complete with the Matrix of Leadership.  I found the gifts, and then headed back home to start cooking.

It only took about 1/2 an hour to cook the sauce for the Salmon and then I packed it up real quick and headed over to Sandra's house.  It was pretty new subdivision.  Her house was really nice.  As soon as i got there, Arnold, started up with the shots.  Since tequila was the only hard liquor they had, that's all we were drinking.  I think I may have had 8 or 9 shots of tequila before the night was over.  The spread of food was really good.  Mexican Flautas, Laotian Egg Rolls, Ham, my salmon, Hooter's, ceviche and other good stuff.  Arnold brought his magic mic, and most of the people had a turn on that.  I was pretty trashed and actually ended up passing out on the couch, for I guess was about 2 hours.  That nap did me well and I was ok to drive after that.

Last Sunday

I woke up as early as i could.  I think I slept in til about 12 before I had to get up to get to the church for my nephew Nathan's baptism.  It was so cold out and considering the night before, I didn't want to get out of bed at all.  I got ready, thinking I was going to be late.  i seemed to be hitting every light on the way there, but when i got there, I think people were still leaving from the 12 o'clock mass.  I was actually early.  St. Francis of Assissi has a new church in Bolingbrook.  Their old building was a small one room building.  I'm not sure what it used to be but for the time that they were there, they didn't have pews.  They were using folding chairs.  The new church is nice and much bigger.  The baptismal bowl, was by the front of the church.  It had a holy water "pond" at the base and then a raised "pond" where everyone dips their fingers in when they walk into church.  Apparently, that's where they were baptizing the babies too.  It's kind of gross when you think about it.  I hope it circulates and gets filtered or cleaned somehow.  The mass took about 40 minutes and then we all headed over to my sister's house for the party.  The reception didn't officially start until 4pm so i opted to watch the rest of the Bears game there and wait until the food arrived before I left to head over to Gilberts for Ryan's 1st birthday.

I headed out to Gilbert's at around 5pm and I was expecting an hour drive from Bolingbrook.  Tina and Rey had been planning a tail gating theme for Ryan's birthday.  There were still a lot of people there when I got there, playing video games, playing poker, sitting around talking.  The party had started at noon, when the Bears game started so I missed that part.  I guess Jojo got there a little late too cuz I noticed that all the presents were already opened except for hers and mine.  I didn't buy enough wrapping paper the day before to wrap both Nathan and Ryan's gifts so I just tied up the Target bag as wrapping paper.  About an hour and half after I got there, everyone started leaving.  Jojo was catching up with Tina upstairs and then Rey, Raymond and I started up with Starcraft.  We played a couple of games and then I called it a night.

My Palms Hurt

My Palms Hurt

Get your mind out of the gutter.  My palms are raw but not because of that!!!  I didn't get up early to shovel today.  I actually got a call at around 9am from my manager asking me to come in early if i get the message in time.  He said that if I get the message early enough to try to make it in cuz the office would be closing down at 2 or 3pm because of the weather.  I called him back and said I'd be there in 30-40 minutes and I got there at around 10ish.  The roads weren't bad, and we didn't get as much snow as I thought we would.  Work wasn't bad but as I was about to leave a little after 2, I returned a call that I regret making.  This broker was long winded and wanted me to walk her through every little detail of her rate lock (that's mortgage lingo).  I spent about 20 minutes talking to this lady as i walked her through something that a 10 year old could do.  Then she starts going off about some birds that are congregating on the power lines.  Her stupid ass knew that we were supposed to be closed and still dragged the conversation on for what seemed like eternity.  She was nice and all but come on.... Not sure why they closed the office early, though.  The sun actually ended up coming out for a little bit.

I got out a little after 3pm.  Went to Kmart to get some blank CDs.  I downloaded a bunch of salsa songs, from a list that my co-worker made for me and I'm going to try to make some sort of mix by tomorrow for the co-worker's Christmas Party.  We'll see how fast I can make a mix.  When I got home, i got stuck at the end of the driveway and I saw that my mom's car was stuck too so I started shoveling right away.  Man, we didn't get a lot of snow, but I know as of 4am, we were still getting hit with freezing rain.  So under the top layer of light fluffy snow, was about an inch thick of slush.  My lower back, my neck, and my palms are hurting now and the worst part, the end of the driveway was a bitch because it was all compacted ice from the plows and us driving over it.  It sucks trying to break ice with a plastic shovel!!  It's done now and I'm not going anywhere.  Got some Jockey's to warm the cockels, caught up with my old classmate, Ruben and I'll spend the rest of the night working on my salsa mix.  I've only got about 8 or 9 songs so it won't be that long but that still about 25 minutes of salsa music.  Have a good weekend!!
